Do you only work on Volkswagen Beetle’s and Karmann Ghia’s?
Karmann Classics is most knowledgeable in the convertible top restoration of Karmann’s vintage product line, but we are more than happy to take a look at other vehicles as well.
Did your technicians undergo special training?
Our technicians received special training by Karmann’s vintage experts from our headquarters in Osnabrueck, Germany. Our technicians are also certified by the State of Michigan.
Is a convertible top restoration usually a one day job?
A typical top restoration may take up to two weeks to complete. This includes the time for ordering parts and restoring the convertible top. However, timing also depends on the type of vehicle to be restored, scope of work and the number of vehicles previously in service.
Do you offer the service of replacing/repairing interior trim, headliners and sunroof cables in non-convertibles?
Karmann Classics specializes in the convertible top restoration of Karmann’s vintage product line. Although restoration of interior trim, sunroofs and non-convertible headliners are not the core of our business you are more than welcome to bring by your vehicle for us to take a look at it.
Can I put a different color top on my convertible?
Yes. You may choose from a variety of colors and materials to customize your vehicle. We can also match the original top color and material if it’s still available.
Do you supply the parts and materials needed for my top restoration?
Yes, we do supply all of the necessary materials needed for the restoration including refurbished OE parts, if required. We only use suppliers providing parts that are in compliance with Karmann’s quality standards.
Do you sell parts for my convertible?
No, we do not sell individual parts at this point in time.
Can you use parts and materials that I have already purchased?
We can, but it is highly recommended that we use our own for quality assurance.
Can I send just my convertible top to be restored?
The textile materials and frame of your convertible top are attached to the vehicle body. Setting up the interface between body and top is a very important step in the restoration/trim of your top. This will also determine any necessary frame/bow adjustments. Therefore we recommend to our customers to send the vehicle including top to our facility for any major restoration work. This is the only way we can assure a top restoration that will meet Karmann’s quality standards. We will be able to assist with shipping arrangements if desired.
How expensive is a top restoration at Karmann Classics?
The price of a convertible top restoration mainly depends on your vehicle type and the scope of work to be performed. Please contact us for a free estimate.
